The Department of Education of the City of New York requires all interested applicants to take the Pre-Nursing Assessment Test-PN developed and administered by C-NET. The test has 150 questions that are designed to measure skills needed for success in an educational program for practical nurses. The test is divided into three (3) timed sections: Reading Ability, Numerical Ability and Language Ability. Applicants are given one hour to complete each of the three sections. Click here to download a description of the test in Acrobat Reader(pdf). Click here to download a description of the test in Microsoft Word(doc). The cost of the examination is $35. Applicants who are interested in the New York City LPN program can apply for and take this examination ONLY ONE TIME per calendar year. Those interested MUST be 21+ years of age by the time classes start in September 2009 and legally able to work in the United States: Proof of American Citizenship, Alien Registration Card or Current Work Papers are required. You must also have a high school diploma or GED and reside in New York City. Please Note: All applications for the examination must be postmarked by January 16, 2009. After submitting a complete application, applicants will be notified of their testing date. The test dates, which will be on either a Saturday or a Sunday, are ASSIGNED to each applicant on a first-come, first-serve basis. Applicants will receive by mail an Examination Permit about 2 weeks prior to the exam date to which they have been assigned. Applicants with religious obligations - for example, you cannot test on a Sunday due to church services - MUST attach an official pastor's letter of explanation to the original application at the time it is submitted. C-NET offers several Practice Tests that contain questions that cover the same content and are written in the same format as the actual exam. We also have the Study Guide package, which is a "teaching tool" which explains step by step how to arrive at the solutions to questions similar to those found on the actual exam. Please click here to download the order form in Acrobat Reader or click here to download it in Microsoft Word and find out more about these preparation materials. The Examination Permits that are mailed to each applicant describing their assigned test date and location will clarify what to bring (and what NOT to bring) to the test location. Applicants are asked to allow four (4) hours from the time they are to report to the location until the time when they should expect to leave. Besides bringing the Examination Permit, applicants MUST bring one of the following 3 forms of identification:
YOU CAN OBTAIN A NEW YORK LICENSE OR NEW YORK STATE NON-DRIVER'S ID AT ANY DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES LOCATION. C-NET provides each applicant with pencils, scrap paper, and answer sheets. Applicants will NOT be allowed to use rulers, calculators, notes or other reference materials while taking the actual examination. C-NET will mail the result letters to the New York City Department of Education and to each applicant's home address approximately 3 weeks after their test date. C-NET WILL NOT disclose score information on the telephone or through email. Please be patient. The Department of Education of the City of New York requires that applicants score at or above the 40th percentile in each of the three areas (Reading Ability, Numerical Ability and Language Ability) and on the overall test. A percentile is the comparison of your scores to the scores of the rest of the country (National Norms Group). Please click here to download a copy of an Example Score Report. Once you have received your score letter and it shows that you have passed, you will continue with the application and interview process with the New York City Department of Education. If your score letter reflects that you have NOT passed, you must wait until the following year to test again. NOVEMBER 2, 2009 - JANUARY 16, 2009 ----- PICK UP/DOWNLOAD APPLICATION JANUARY 16, 2009 ----- POSTMARKED DEADLINE FEBRUARY 2009 through APRIL 2009 ------ EXAMINATIONS WILL BE HELD ON DESIGNATED SATURDAYS and SUNDAYS |
